Breaking
It is vital for a young horse to “get a good education,” and we have the necessary accommodations. After stall work, babies learn how to handle themselves in the bullpen. When going forward, they move outside to the square pen and then to the arena. Their confidence is built by allowing them to see things gradually, and by the time they go to the track, they have an established daily routine. We break all of our babies to the starting gate. They learn to walk in and stand, and then when ready, are asked to jog out and gallop down the track. At departure they are ready for their first serious breeze. |
