The uniqueness of our track is in its shape and surface. Its design is not only a factor of our independent thinking, but also the result of our search for something “cutting edge” in keeping horses fresh and challenged. Babies starting with us learn proper balance and lead changes while galloping through the gently sweeping curves, and seasoned campaigners enjoy the change from the standard oval. At a half mile, the turns are wide enough to allow a horse to do a two minute lick and breeze an eighth of a mile down the backside. The quarter mile uphill gallop is good for building up the back end and can be used effectively to alter the routine without sacrificing conditioning. The surface, made up of silica sand and nylon fibers, is a perfect mix for our needs. We've found the surface to be a happy medium between dirt and poly. It's not deep like a dirt track but horses don't train over the top of it like poly. The poly-like properties make it ideal
for our rehabs but yet it remains enough like a traditional dirt track
to allow the grip for the extension needed to get a horse fit. Additionally,
it can tolerate a substantial rain without becoming sloppy and resists
freezing even after dirt tracks in the area are frozen. |
